Critical Ecologies Lab

An interdisciplinary collaboration of faculty and students at the University of South Carolina who analyze contemporary environmental issues through the lenses of culture, history, and political economy.

The Critical Ecologies lab is a group of geographers, anthropologists, and historians at the University of South Carolina working at the intersections of political ecology, environmental history, science and technology studies, economic and political geography, and environmental anthropology. Our interests are broad but united by a shared commitment to bringing critical perspectives to bear on contemporary environmental issues.

We began in Fall 2014 as a faculty writing group, meeting each month to share and discuss our work. In the 2019-20 academic year, we will be hosting a visit by Gavin Bridge from Durham University in the UK and are planning an associated workshop on resource materiality and temporality.
